Puns Networking Projects Part 2 Empty
PostSubject: Puns Networking Projects Part 2   Puns Networking Projects Part 2 EmptyMon Nov 19, 2012 1:31 am

Second part to this, I wanted to build my own NAS (Network Attached Storage) system instead of buying crappy overpriced ones. I'm using once again a unix distro based on FreeBSD, called FreeNAS. It's a very powerful NAS software that works better than any thing I've used before. It prefers software raid and uses the ZFS file format which is better than anything windows or mac could do. Most of the storage is media such as pictures and movies. I'm using XBMC as the media center software to stream it.

Specs:
Old Velocity Micro Lian Li Case
Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2PT LGA775 board
2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 Gskill Ram
Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 PSU
Core 2 Duo 6400 2.13GHz
2 x 2TB Western Digital REDs in Raid 1

Puni. This is basically what I need to do. I Know absolutely nothing about server software so Im wondering what the best is out there for me to use. What is going to be the most compatible with my software and if I can use the SSD's That I have been getting while they are on sale for this build.
